The Medical Home is a concept of health care for children with special needs that is accessible, family-centered, coordinated, comprehensive, continuous, compassionate, and culturally-effective. Recent scientific research into early child brain development indicates the importance of stable and supportive relationships, family support, and quality primary care during a child's first years. Major child advocacy efforts, including national policy of the American Academy of Pediatrics and national goals outlined by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, support the advancement of the Medical Home and new systems of care for ALL children.
