Speaking to Power: Gender and Politics in the Western Pacific
1995 Book, Routledge Press
Writer/Researcher: Lynn B. Wilson, PhD
Lynn lived in Belau, western Micronesia, for two years (1987-89) to examine intersections of gender construction within three spheres of politics through one family's history. Based particularly on over 200 hours of audio-taped interviews with Gabriela Ngirmang and her family, the narrative challenges conventional ethnographic approaches by focusing on the process of research and by integrating Gabriela's and other's transcribed quotes into the text as major participants in ethnographic dialogue.
